Day One @ Cologne, Germany (I)

March 23, 2009 · Posted in Cologne

The night before flying to Cologne on 25 Jan, Mr bear brought me the Turkish Doner Pizza. This Germany’s favourite street food can be easily found almost everywhere, from early morning to late night along the streets or at the railway stations. To my surprise, it is far more popular than the hamburgers or sausages, a must have in Germany. Super duper delicious!!

Doner Pizza – (€3)

Flatbread wrapped with chicken and salad (Shredded lettuces, cabbages, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers) with the choice of sauces either hot sauce (scharfe Soße), herb sauce (Kräutersoße), garlic sauce (Knoblauchsoße), or yoghurt (Joghurtsoße).

Going to Berlin Schoenefeld Airport
Despite the coldness, at 11.00pm we walked to the railway station (Bahnhof) to get to the Berlin Schoenefeld Airport.

Frankfurt (Oder) Bahnhof > Berlin Ostbahnhof > Berlin Schoenefeld Flughafen

Berlin Ostbahnhof

Arriving @ Berlin Schoenefeld Airport
From the Berlin Schoenefeld Flughafen railway station, we walked again in the freaky cold morning at 1.20am (The flight departure time was 7.00am)!! T.T

We first looked for the Germanwings check in counter, which is located in Terminal D. Very quiet, only 2 of us : p

Marche Bistro @ Terminal A, Berlin Schoenefeld Airport

Chococcino – (€3.40)

Apple Muffin – (€1.90)

To keep warm, we had the hot chococcino and apple muffin @ Marche Bistro. The muffin was just ok to me, my favourite one is from the Coffee Bean ^.^  But, the chococcino is a must try, pure hot chocolate. The best we’ve ever tasted!!

Marche Bistro @ Terminal D, Berlin Schoenefeld Airport (Departure)

After checking in, there was still plenty of time thus we ordered the drink again @ Marche Bistro : p This time around, we had the orange juice. Hmmm, refreshing!!

Orange Juice – (€3.70)

Handy Phrasebook from Lonely Planet

This is quite useful for a quick linguistic guide.

Frostbite!!
Look at my hands, redness and tingling T.T

Arriving @ The Germany’s Fourth Largest City
At 8.10am, we arrived and quickly bought the train ticket for two to go to our destination, Rudolfplatz.

First Stop – Meininger City Hostels & Hotel, Cologne

Clean, Comfy & Friendly

We then went to the Cologne Cathedral (Kolner Dom) by walking, and also to find a place alongside to feed our hungry belly.

Second Stop – Subway, Cologne

The XL Menu - (€8.59)

We had the XL Menu, come with Jedes Footlong (30cm) Sub with turkey and ham, soft drink and double chocolate chips cookie.

The filling was very generous, lots of turkey and ham and the cookie was very soft, fudgy and served hot. Yummy!!

What a satisfied and delightful breakfast!!
