Marmalade Cafe @ Bangsar Village II, Bangsar

April 14, 2009 · Posted in Western

Beginning in 2002 as the Gecko, one year later the Gecko evolved into the Marmalade – a place filled with familiar faces and comfort food. With an appreciation for the raw and unpolished, coupled with an emphasis on family values, the same founder Alicia and her mom Kim continues to prepare the dishes with the finest ingredients, and the salad dressings are still homemade by Alicia. It’s the food, healthy and good – based on their own recipes that keeps customers returning.

The Ambience

The Ambience

The colorful and whimsical images on the wall drew my attention at first sight. There is a kids’ corner for kids to have some fun while the parents enjoy a bite or drink. For us, we picked some latest from the stack of magazines to read leisurely.

Here come the drinks we had, the single dose apple juice and mochacino.

Mochacino – RM8.50

Mochacino

This mochacino was just alright to me, not impressed though. However, Mr Bear said the pure apple juice (RM7.50) was great, no sugar added : )

Turkey and Mushroom Quiche – RM16

Turkey and Mushroom Quiche

The eggy mixture was very creamy and well filled of turkey and mushroom.  But it tasted rather bland, sadly… … it was not to our liking : (

Banoffee Cheese Cake – RM 9.90

Banoffee Cheese Cake

Banana toffee cheese cake served with butterscotch sauce was deceptively delicious and sinful!! I couldn’t finish it, gotta share with Mr Bear. Oh… …no, lust for it now, where can I get banoffee cheese cake in Penang?

Carrot Cake – RM9.90

Carrot Cake

It was loaded with shredded carrots and walnuts, cream cheese frosting, dotted with pumpkin seeds and topped off with bittersweet Marmalade zest.

Well, well, well… … having heard many great reviews about this piece of heaven, however it failed to win over our hearts. A tad dry and flavorless.  Our favorite is from the Annabelle’s Place : p (read my review here, Annabelle’s Place @ Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah)

Mini Cupcakes – RM3

Mini Cupcake

Each came in a pair. I had never tried the mini cupcakes. Those were all for the kids at home : )

The Bill

The Bill

The prices are a little steep, still worth a try : ) Next time in KL, I’m gonna try out the salad and the other tantalizing dessert.   Oh yeah, The Sounds of Havana salad and Moroccan Lamb Shank, most probably ^ ^

  2. [...] Thanks for the long and comprehensive answers Sarah! She has her own Wikipedia page (it’s in Malay though) and an artblog, which she updates on a regular basis (her artblog, not her Wiki page!). Her professional portfolio can be found here. You can also add her on Facebook or just enjoy looking at her murals at Bangsar Shopping Center’s Marmalade Cafe. [...]
