Day One @ Munich, Germany (I)

October 14, 2009 · Posted in Munich

It’s time for me to continue the story about my long vacation trip on Jan.

…Yea, I know it is already Oct now : p
I still have many other excitements to share in UK, Berlin & Prague. But for now, I’m gonna take you to Munich, the fascinating capital city of Bavaria.

Neues Rathaus (New town hall)

On Jan, we managed to get cheap airfare from Germanwings. Well, after converting back to MYR that’s not cheap though : )

€100.68 per person from Berlin Schoenefeld to Munich. Approximate flight time is 1hr 10min.

From Frankfurt (Oder) Bahnhof , we bought 2 single trip train tickets, €9.10 per person for group ticket type and took the RE (Regional-Express, 1hr train) to Berlin Ostbahnhof and made interchange to Berlin Schoenefeld. In Germany, for more than 2 persons, we can get the group ticket type, much cheaper, otherwise one ticket will cost €18.20 for one person if buying from the ticket machine. (* Buying from the ticket machine will be cheaper than from the counter, you can save about €2)

Upon arriving Munich Airport, we spent €18 (group ticket) for one day trip train ticket.

Going to Hackerbrucke

It took us 45min to reach Hackerbrucke where the Westend Hotel (ehemals Hotel Kurpfalz) located.

As soon as we stepped out, we felt the coldness.

OMG!! It was colder than in Cologne! Poor thing, we still need to walk to the hotel and the worst part is we got lost!!

We had to ask the passerby and he showed us the direction, very kind person : ) But again, we still couldn’t find it.

Another gentleman approached us. (He was jogging in that freaky cold weather!!) While we were struggling together to figure out the right way of the location, Ah ha… I fount it. It was just a few steps in front of us!! Silly…

Finally… we reached. Our sincere thanks to the two friendly gentlemen =) After checking in, we popped into the room to rest for a while, were gonna out again to Merienplatz. Yea!!

After getting to know the hotel location, it is actually not that far from the train station, still a convenient place to stay and from Hackerbrucke to go to Merienplatz, it only takes10min to reach there.

The first thing we did at Merienplatz was looking for a place to eat : )
Here is our breakfast @ Vinzenzmurr.

Latte & Cappuccino – €1.60 each

100g – €1.09

Nothing great about the meal, the salad cost us €6.55!! : S

What’s next after the breakfast? We wandered around the old city. First is the most emblematic monument in Marienplatz – Neues Rathaus (New town hall) which took 42 years to complete (1867-1909).
